"h/o - PIR....PITA!"

Hey parents, do you know what this is? You should, it's all about you! So you think that since you put the family computer in a central location and you are occasionally walking by, taking a sneak glance as you come and go from the kitchen, that everything is just fine? Your teen keeps typing like it doesn't matter what Mom or Dad sees because its all wholesome and safe. It's not like they acted as if they were trying to hide anything, right? But wait, parents are a bit behind when it comes to teen lingo. How about "hold on, parents in room, pain in the ass!"  Well that's what it says at the top of the paragraph.

There is a reason for this shorthand that all internet active teens memorize and understand: information is exchanged that they would rather parents did not know about. Don't think so? How about POS (Parent Over Shoulder), KPC (Keeping Parents Clueless) or P911 (Parent Alert). Do you like that? There are a lot more out there.

Forget about parent alerts, what about sexually suggestive shorthand? Many teens may use this type of stuff just to be cool or funny not even knowing that it is getting a predator on the other side, say Jack who is 48 but claims to be Chad who is 17, very excited. DURS (Damn You Are Sexy), IWSN (I Want Sex Now), LHOS (Lets Have Sex Online), or NIFOC (Nude In Front Of The Computer) may all be used in funny or experimental teen ways but when you consider the possibility of 48 year old Jack the predator on the other end, things can get scary.

What about drugs? 420, Skittles, Adam, and Roll are all direct drug references common to teen online lingo. Do the parents out there recognize them? Probably not.

We took the effort to comb a multitude of resources and put together a reference guide to teen online lingo. It contains over 1,200 searchable translations! If a parent sees a phase they don't understand, by checking this searchable manual they will most likely get the proper teen translation.

The Parents Guide to Teen Online Lingo is part of the Parents Knowledge Kit for Online Child Safety - a MUST HAVE for all parents that want to be proactive in protecting their children online. Click here for more information.
